The Other Place 'like no other place' for some
The Other Place was "the place" for these customers who last Thursday evening came in at a steady pace for pick-up orders at this pizza, pasta, hoagie -- and so much more -- establishment in Scott Township.
"Everything is good here," says Mary Rodavich, of Scott Township. "I think consistency is one of the big reasons I keep coming back here. I also like to support local businesses. It's the bomb."
Owner Scott Dailey says he relies on word of mouth to get people to try his restaurant and then it's his job to make food they like and treat them right so they will come back.
Having worked at Vincent's Pizza in Greentree and other restaurants since he was a teenager, the Scott Township resident knows what makes loyal customers.
"I love to cook, so this is the perfect job for me," Dailey says. "I love this neighborhood, and I appreciate having a business here. We know a lot of our customers by name. I know if you give people good food at a reasonable price, they will come back. I like our name because, it is funny, and it's cool. We like to say 'The Other Place is like no other place.' "
Dailey bought the restaurant on July 1, 2004. The name used to be "Vincent's Other Place" and he slightly changed it. It's located on a hill at the corner of Swallow Hill Road and Greentree Road. In addition to pickup and delivery (to a rather large area), they offer a catering service. There is no dining-in area, but Dailey plans to add that as well as a deck in the future. You won't find any big screen televisions, only radio.
"We are old-school," Dailey says. "If there is a game on, we just listen to it while we take care of customers."
Dailey's son, Scott Jr., daughter Hannah and wife Laurice work there. Youngest son Cameron most likely will be next on the payroll.
"My wife taught me that if you like to cook you can make anything," Scott Dailey says. "I am to the point where I don't have to measure ingredients anymore. I just know."
The comprehensive menu includes everything from tasty appetizers to delicious dinners to massive lasagna trays. Start with chicken fingers, made from real chicken, for $6.50 and then add a side of beer battered steak-cut onion rings for $4.25. Salads include grilled steak, chef, tossed and antipasto. Prices start at $5.50. There are 16 specialty pizzas, as well as thin-, traditional- and thick-crust pies. The nine calzone choices are Italian, steak, pepperoni, five cheese, veggie, hot sausage, meatball, chicken broccoli cheddar and Mediterranean. A small, thin-crust cheese pizza is $7. The Carnivore pie ($10 to $16) has pepperoni, sausage, ham, Genoa salami, bacon, cappicolo, mozzarella and provolone cheese.
There are four gyro selections and two styles of hoagies -- regular such as Italian and tuna -- as well as Knock'em Out Hoagies ($13.25 to $13.50), inspired by the Rocky movies. Try a Stallion, Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Drago or Adrian. They are all served on a whole loaf of Mancini bread. For example, the Stallion has generous amounts of Genoa salami, baked ham, pepperoni, cooked salami, provolone cheese, hot peppers, olives, lettuce, tomato, onion and dressing.
"We call these our 'Man versus Food' option," Scott Dailey says. "Guys love these sandwiches. We make sure they have a lot of meat, cheese and toppings."
Some pasta dishes are spaghetti, gnocchi, and chicken parmesan, which start at $8. One of the place's specialties is the lasagna tray. This dish consists of provolone, mozzarella, ricotta cheeses, meatballs, Labriola sausage, tomato sauce and noodles. They come in small ($25), medium ($35) and large ($60). There are wings, as well as other sandwich selections.
If there is something you don't see on the menu, just ask.
"If our customers want something that we don't offer on the menu and we have the ingredients to make it we will make it," says Scott Dailey Jr. "We try to be family-oriented here. It's fun to work here and I think people like the atmosphere here."Additional Information:
