| Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011

A federal judge today sentenced a Charleroi man to three years and 10 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the Nov. 1, 2010, robbery of the Citizens Bank on Fallowfield Avenue in Charleroi.

Kurt Fritzel, 51, lived a block away from the bank and was caught after a dye pack included with the money exploded while he was walking back to his apartment. Witnesses saw him enveloped in a cloud of red dye and then running into his apartment, where police arrested him.

U.S. District Judge Gustave Diamond also sentenced Fritzel to three years of probation and ordered him to pay $227 in restitution.
