The board of directors of Community College of Allegheny County announced on Thursday the creation of a grant program designed to "promote faculty innovation that increases student engagement," according to college officials.

The John Dziak Faculty Development and Engagement Fund -- named for a longtime assistant professor of biology of the college -- will provide annual grants of up to $500 for five faculty members to identify and test strategies in their classrooms that then can be shared with their colleagues.

Dziak presented CCAC with $20,000 toward the fund's endowment. College President Alex Johnson said he will add another $10,000 to the endowment.
