A Monongahela police officer was injured in a single-car accident this morning.

Monongahela police Chief Brian Tempest identified the officer as Robert Boyer, a nearly 15-year veteran of the department.

The accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Route 19, near Donaldson's Crossroads.

According to Tempest, the police cruiser left the roadway and rolled over. The vehicle was upside down when Peters Township police arrived.

The officer had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to Canonsburg Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Monongahela police provide police coverage for Finleyville as well as New Eagle. But Tempest said Boyer was not answering a call and police were unsure why he was on Route 19 at the time.
