Benchings don't discourage Pitt QB Sunseri

Pitt starting quarterback Tino Sunseri said his resolve, confidence and preparation have remained unchanged, despite getting benched in four games.

"Each week, I prepare like I am the starter," he said. "I prepare like I am the best quarterback in the country. That's the kind of demeanor I have.

"I prepare like I am going out there to execute and lead my team to victory."

Coach Todd Graham has vowed to stop yanking Sunseri out of games, admitting instability at the position has contributed to the offense's inconsistency.

"We've got to go with the people who have the knowledge of what we're doing," he said.

Myers' return?

Backup quarterback Trey Anderson has tendinitis in his wrist, which has allowed Mark Myers, who had been No. 3, to get increased repetitions in practice this week.

Myers hadn't been a factor in the position's pecking order because coaches were focused on getting Sunseri and Anderson ready.

"At some point, you can't rep more than two guys," quarterbacks coach Todd Dodge said.

Dodge said Myers "continues to be a viable option on our football team."

"There are a lot of things Mark can bring to the table. He just has to be consistent day in an day out."

Sacks by the dozen

Pitt quarterbacks have been sacked 12 times in the past two games, but Dodge said it's not just the fault of the offensive line.

"It's the responsibility of all 11 people," he said. Speaking for the quarterbacks, he said, "We have to make sure we get the ball out on time."

Dodge said Rutgers, which recorded six sacks, "found our kryptonite a little bit, which was attacking us inside, with some inexperience in our front (line) unit."

Seeking toughness

Tight ends coach Tony Dews is stressing increased physicality to his players.

"There have been times in the last couple weeks where I, as a position coach, have not been satisfied completely with how we play physically," he said. "We need to be physical all the time, not sometimes."
