Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown will offer four comedies and two musicals for its 74th season.
The 2013 season will start with “Pump Boys and Dinettes” (June 18-30), a country musical that's also scheduled for a Broadway revival this spring.
The world premiere of “Neil Simon's Comic Suites” (July 9-21) will follow. Mountain Playhouse producer Teresa Marafino created this show that packages four of the comedic playwright's short plays set in hotel rooms. Each of the plays Marafino chose first appeared in Simon's “Plaza Suite,” “California Suite” or “London Suite.”
Next in the season lineup is “Squabbles” (July 23-Aug. 4), a comedy about a husband and wife sharing their apartment with the wife's father. Their contentment turns to chaos when the husband's mother moves in with them after her house burns down.
Farce follows with “Sin, Sex and the CIA” (Aug. 6-18), a romp of double entendres, physical comedy, mistaken identities, slamming doors and amorous pursuits. The action unfolds in a safe house in Virginia, where an over-eager CIA agent is attempting to organize a meeting between an oil-rich Indian Ocean nation and the United States.
Homicide takes a comedic turn in “Let's Murder Marsha” (Sept. 17-29), when an avid fan of murder mysteries misinterprets an overheard telephone conversation. Convinced her husband is planning to do her in, Marsha plots to stop him.
The 2013 season concludes with the musical comedy “Church Basement Ladies, A Second Helping” (Oct. 1-13). The sequel to “Church Basement Ladies” that made a big hit with Mountain Playhouse audiences in 2011, the show reunites theatergoers with the ladies of a rural Minnesota church who trade recipes and solve the problems of the world while serving dishes for Christmas dinner, the funeral of a close friend and the Hawaiian Easter fundraiser.
The Mountain Playhouse is on Route 985, one-half mile north of Route 30 in Jennerstown in Somerset County.
Subscriptions for the six-play 2013 season are on sale with prices that range from $83 to $197.
Single tickets also are on sale, with comedies ranging from $15 to $32; $10 for students, and musicals from $15 to $37; $13 for students.
