Dining News: Airmall at Pittsburgh International Airport welcomes Martini

Martini, a new upscale bar at the Airmall at Pittsburgh International Airport, features classic concoctions and a variety of menu items with Pittsburgh flair.

There's a new place to grab a bite or craft cocktail at the Airmall at Pittsburgh International Airport: Martini.

The 1,000-square-foot upscale bar, in the center of the airside terminal, seats 50 and features classic concoctions and a variety of menu items with Pittsburgh flair.

“Martini reintroduces style to the traveling experience,” says Jay Kruisselbrink, senior vice president for the Airmall. “Passengers will find Martini is a perfect stop to get them on their way with its inviting menu and ambience. The tony bar adds a touch of class to their travels.”

The house drink at Martini, the Blue Sky, evokes the classic luxury of air travel with a tempting mixture of Absolut Citron vodka, blue Curaçao, a touch of sours and a splash of Sprite, topped off with a zesty lemon garnish.

In addition to the assortment of specialty drinks, Martini's menu is made for travelers on the go. Flat breads, soups and salads, and plates ranging from Buffalo wings and sliders to a charcuterie board are featured. Items like the Pittsburgh Chips and The Burgh salad offer a taste of the city.

Martini's design is influenced by contemporary style, from the mosaic tiles covering the curved surfaces to the futuristic light fixtures and refined color palette.

Martini opens at 8 a.m. daily and closes at 8 p.m. Sundays through Fridays and 7 p.m. Saturdays.

Dreadnought Wines

Dreadnought Wines and the Omni William Penn will host a Taste of South Africa Wine Dinner with Ken Forrester Wines on Oct. 15 at the Downtown hotel.

The 6 p.m. five-course dinner, held in the Terrace Room, will include fire-seared lamb chop, crispy biltong and eggplant salad, slow-cooked chakalaka, grilled boerewors, kingklip braai and mini melktert.

Cost is $89 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Free valet parking is available. Pre-paid reservations are required.

Dreadnought Wines is a Strip District wine and spirits distributor representing boutique wineries and niche spirits from around the world.

CK 9th Street Cafe

The CK 9th Street Cafe, South Side, will have a grand-opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14.

At the free event, guests can sample from the cafe menu, learn about the Community Kitchen's mission, check out the new educational-mural installations and talk with culinary students.

There also will be luncheon raffles, guest speakers and a ribbon-cutting.

The cafe is in the back of the Mercy Behavior Health Building, 330 9th St., South Side, with public entrances on Eighth and Ninth streets. Public parking is street parking only.

Burgundy

Chef Toni Pais and Trib Total Media wine writer Dave DeSimone are teaming up for an exploration of the wines and food of Burgundy, France and a taste of Portugal.

The wine dinner will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Cafe Zinho, 238 Spahr St., Shadyside.

The menu will include demi-tasse of billi-bi soup and margarita puff pastry with spiced olives with cheese, roasted beets and goat cheese timbale with citrus vinaigrette, braised rabbit with burgundy wine sauce and vegetable risotto and chocolate mousse with a Portuguese almond cookie.

The cost is $82 per person, including tax and gratuity. Reservations are limited to 30 guests.
