'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Michael Cera is an obnoxious Yank tripping around Chile in this alternately annoying and fascinating road movie. Gaby Hoffman, as a flaky hippie, has the title role.

She and Cera's coke-snorting, Huxley-quoting blabbermouth join a Chilean trio, heading for the desert in search of a magic cactus.
