As it nears the century mark, Downtown's Omni William Penn is boasting its first AAA Four Diamond Award.

The historic landmark hotel that opened in 1916 and has hosted top political leaders and entertainers recently completed a $25 million renovation. The project included November's opening of Speakeasy, in a space where visitors reportedly snuck drinks during Prohibition years. The William Penn, with 596 rooms and 38 suites, joins the Fairmont Pittsburgh and Renaissance Pittsburgh hotels and Eleven restaurant as the city's four diamond businesses for 2013, AAA East Central said Friday.

Sections of Nemacolin Woodlands resort in Fayette County are on AAA's five- or four-diamond lists.
