Ford recalls Focus electric, C-Max to fix chime

By The Associated Press
Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, 12:01 a.m.

Ford is recalling about 24,000 cars because a chime won't sound if the driver's door is opened while the key is inside the car.

The recall in the United States and Canada affects Ford Focus electric cars from 2012 and 2013, and the C-Max hybrid from the 2013 model year. The cars have push-button starting mechanisms.

Ford said the cars don't comply with regulations requiring the chime. No crashes or injuries have been reported because of the problem.

Ford dealers will modify software starting next week to make the chimes sound properly.
