Allegheny Technologies Inc. will lay off 259 salaried and hourly employees in January when it idles its Midland plant in Beaver County, the company revealed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing with the state.

The plant is one of two ATI Flat-Rolled Products facilities that the company said in December will be idled in 2016. ATI also will shut down its Bagdad plant in Gilpin, Armstrong County, in March.

The plants are among a dozen ATI Flat-Rolled Products facilities where employees represented by the United Steelworkers union are locked out in a labor dispute. The union has said 220 of its members are employed at the Midland plant and 360 are employed in Gilpin.
