Defending Constellation Senior Players champion Fred Couples and Tom Lehman are tied for the early lead in the clubhouse after both birdied No. 18 to finish the first round at 4-under par 66 today at Fox Chapel Golf Club.

Couples birdied Nos. 2, 9, 12 and 18 to finish 33-33. The 54-year-old won the Senior Players last August, beating John Cook in a three-hole playoff at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y.

Lehman shot 30 on the front nine, with birdies on the first three holes and Nos. 5 and 7. He recovered from bogeys on the 11th and 12th to finish with a 36 on the back.

Bruce Vaughan also is at 4-under with five holes left to play.
