Pennsylvania has an acting consumer advocate following the recent retirement of Sonny Popowsky, who held the job for 22 years.

Tanya J. McCloskey was named on Friday to head the Office of Consumer Advocate, which represents the public's interests in utility matters, by state Attorney General Linda Kelly. McCloskey has been with the office for 25 years, the last 19 as a senior assistant consumer advocate participating in utility and consumer law matters.

She has taken part in litigating rate cases, investigating utility activities, mergers and other issues and restructuring electric and natural gas industries in the state.

The state attorney general must nominate a permanent consumer advocate, who would need Senate confirmation.

Kim Leonard is a staff writer for Trib Total Media. She can be reached at 412-380-5606 or kleonard@tribweb.com.
