Bubba's Gourmet Burghers & Beer offers a fresh mix
There's something different about the “burghers” you eat at the new Bubba's Gourmet Burghers & Beer in South Fayette.
The burgers aren't made of the standard ingredient of ground chuck. The half--pound patties come from a mix of brisket, prime rib and short ribs. It's ground fresh and delivered to the restaurant every morning.
“It's the furthest thing from ground chuck,” says Bubba Snyder, who co-owns the restaurant with Ed Kelly. “When I told people what I wanted my burgers to be, they said I'm crazy.”
People thought that the gourmet burgers would have to be more expensive than they are, but they cost from $8.99 to $11.99, except for a buffalo-meat Buffalo Chicken Burgher for $13.99.
The burgers come in many styles, including the popular Bubba Burgher ($9.99), which is topped with thick-cut bacon and lots of shredded cheddar cheese, some of which has been fried and picked off the griddle. Fried onion rings, barbecue sauce, pepper-jack cheese, bacon and veggies cover the popular “Wild, Wild West” ($9.99), and the often-ordered N'Awlins Burgher ($10.99) is crusted in Cajun seasoning and topped with chipotle mayo, bacon, blue cheese and veggies.
Customers love the unique taste of Bubba's burghers, says Snyder, who many know as the morning disc jockey on 100.7 FM radio.
“I would put my burger up against any burger in America now,” the South Fayette resident says.
Burghers come with homemade fries, which are half Idaho potatoes and half sweet potatoes. Bubba's carries other menu items such as boneless wings ($7.99), several salads including “Bubba's Got Crabs on His Salad” with crab meat ($13.99), and vegetarian appetizers such as grilled zucchini ($6.99) and hummus and pita ($8.99).
Bubba's — which has cheery red and yellow walls — opened around Labor Day, and the restaurant has drawn a steady clientele, largely from around the South Hills and even Washington County. Snyder's wife, Tracy, manages the restaurant that, he says, has a personal feel.
“I've always believed, if you put out a top-notch product and give people good service, this type of business will really do well,” Snyder says.
Although adults and kids come to Bubba's to eat, the restaurant has a well-stocked bar, and several television screens. Snyder sells several kinds of bottled craft beers with a rotating menu, along with wines and liquor. Snyder, a father of four, says Bubba's is a place for all ages.
“I want it to be the type of place where everyone can feel comfortable,” he says.
Bubba's Gourmet Burghers & Beer, 3109 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 7 p.m. Sundays; although the eatery will stay open late for a Steeler game. Details: 412-564-5638
