Artists sell handicrafts via 'Snowflake Showcase' exhibit in Hempfield
This holiday season, find one-of-a-kind gifts at Greensburg Art Center and the Rowe Gallery on Todd School Road in Hempfield.
“Snowflake Showcase” features jewelry, ceramics, textiles, woodwork and paintings created by regional artists for sale through Dec. 22, when a closing reception with free gift wrapping will be held.
At the opening on Nov. 18, show chairwoman Cathy Rosensteel said the selection constantly changes as new items are brought in to replace what has been sold.
Artists are charged just 25 percent commission on what they sell.
“It's art of our people, by our people, for our people,” Rosensteel said.
For an investment of $10, Rosensteel teaches “Where to Begin,” a class that provides all materials, lasts six to eight weeks and encourages students to explore drawing, watercolors and oils.
“They get to try everything but pastels,” she said.
The next show at the center will open Jan. 22 with a Mardi Gras-themed reception.
