A new concept in dining discounts comes in the form of a deck of cards. A box of City Dining Cards contains 50 discount cards, each worth $10 off a bill of $30 or more (exclusive of tax, tip and alcohol). Two wild cards hidden in the deck offer more freebies. Restaurants include Pittsburgh favorites, such as Root 174, Nine On Nine, Olive or Twist, Taste of Dahntahn and Cibo.

A deck of City Dining cards cost $20, with 5 percent of all sales going to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. They can be purchased at Whole Foods, Marty's Market and Pavement or online. Details: www.citydiningcards.com

Stroll the Strip

Neighbors in the Strip will host a “Stroll the Strip” event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Participants will have the opportunity to savor the flavors of the season with an array of samplings at a dozen businesses in the Strip District. The walking tour will start at Marty's Market or Pittsburgh Public Market and continue to the host locations including Bar Marco, Dreadnought Wines, In the Kitchen, Lot 24, Luke Wholey's Wild Alaskan Grille, Mon Aimee Chocolat, Osteria 2350, Roxanne's Dried Flowers, Society for Contemporary Craft and Wigle Whiskey.

The Pittsburgh Tour Co. will provide a circulating double-decker bus to whisk weary participants to their next location. An after-party with dancing and refreshments at Cruze Bar, featuring live band Random Play, will follow from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

One tasty, Dark 'n Stormy night

Village Candy will team with Sharp Edge Bistro Sewickley to demonstrate, taste and discuss retro ginger cocktails at its upcoming Ginger Beer tasting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12. Village Candy will offer tastes of an array of glass-bottled ginger ales and beers, and the renowned Sharp Edge Bistro will be lending one of their expert mixologists to discuss and demonstrate two rapidly up-and-coming retro cocktails, the Dark 'n Stormy and the Moscow Mule. Both have ginger beer as their primary component, and Village Candy has the largest selection of these mysterious beverages/mixers in the area.
