The puppies were among 55 dogs and cats brought to the Ohio Township facility as part of the 17th annual New Year's Eve Rescue. All of the animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, bathed, and undergo medical and behavioral evaluations. If all is well, the animals will be ready for adoption on Thursday. The puppies, which are be about 6 weeks old, will be fostered before they can be adopted. They arrived from the Greene County Humane Society, where Carpinelli is the president. All of the animals rescued Tuesday received names from the world of Dr. Seuss characters. All of the cats and dogs were scheduled to be euthanized Tuesday night at area shelters, but were saved through the efforts of Animal Friends.

Brigid Beatty | Leader-Times - State police are investigating a one-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon in Cowanshannock Township. Police said the Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling south on Route 839, near Route 85, when the vehicle rolled over and landed in a ditch. Six people — a man, woman and four juveniles — were transported from the scene to ACMH Hospital.
