Like a scene from a movie, the blessing of the Rolling Rock Hunt took place Saturday morning at Braemar Farm in Ligonier Township.
In a light rain, gleaming horses with braided manes carried gentlemen in bright scarlet coats and ladies in stately navy, while the hounds paced and sniffed the air, eager to be off.
Dressed in a wide-brimmed black hat and long black cape, the Rev. James Simons of St. Michael of the Valley Episcopal Church in Rector strode to the head of the assemblage and pronounced the blessing.
Then, with the sound of huntsman Mark Stickley's horn, the flights of riders clip-clopped up the lane to the green fields and autumn-tinged woods beyond, to pursue the wily fox.
Hosts were Braemar Farm owners Fritz and Ulla Teroerde. Fritz Teroerde shares hunt master honors with Sophie Mellon and Christina McBroom.
Among those riding to the hunt were William Burkland, Catherine Baxter Smith, Pat Wallace, Terry Graft, Kris Samloff, Dr. Bill Choby, Nancy Everson, Georgia Smith and whips Virginia Stickley, Sophie LaPorte and Dr. Don McGraw.
Seen on the ground: Tom Smith, Linda Brown, Gordon and Kenny Nelson, Tom and Lisa McChesney, Caroline Imbriglia, Mike Turnberger and Debbie Honkus, Kristin Wilkins, Carol Nicely and the Rev. Bruce Maxwell.
