• A 12,000-square-foot building is under construction at the Village at Pine Center, located at Wallace Road and Route 19 in Pine, with a Wine & Spirits store scheduled to occupy space when the building opens in January or early February, said Tim Piper, vice president of real estate management at Gigliotti Properties. There is a branch of First Niagara in another building, he said. The 185,000-square-foot complex contains a Giant Eagle, along with Sonic, restaurants, a doctor's office and GetGo, Piper said.
• Pennsylvania now has a land bank law that will enable communities to establish groups consisting of blighted and abandoned properties. Land banks are designed to make it faster, easier and cheaper for an interested and responsible owner — developers, builders, community groups, neighbors, farmers, gardeners — to purchase these properties for reuse. Someone will be put in charge of addressing blighted property, providing clear title and setting clear local priorities.
• Randy Reselar will seek the approval of the Plum Zoning Hearing Board on Monday for a variance to operate a light manufacturing machine shop tool and dye, at 128 Kerr Road, in Plum. A public hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 4575 New Texas Road.
• DiCicco Development Co. changed its development plans on a 22-acre site in North Fayette to include only one hotel and a 130,000-square-foot office building. Originally, two hotels were to be built. Currently, the 117-room Hilton Homewood Suites is under construction with a late 2013 opening, and the five-story office building will be built while leasing actitives are under way, said Sam DiCicco. a principal of the company.
• Neighborhood Legal Service Association will receive up to $150,000 to increase the energy efficiency in its building at 928 Penn Ave., Downtown. The money, through the Allegheny County Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund, was approved by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County. Primary attention will be given to the roof and the existing heating and cooling system.
• When buyers and sellers have a dispute in the purchase of a residential property, the Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh is urging they use mediation instead of going to civil court to resolve the problem. In an effort to acquaint its members about the mediation process, the association is holding a two-hour class on Nov. 27 at two locations: Penn Hills Library, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and at the Moon Library, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $5. • Prudential Preferred Realty teamed with OwnAmerica, a national web-based, resource and training organization for real estate investors and investment specialists, featuring a training course and analysis tools.
• The reopening of the renovated South Side Goodwill store at 2700 E. Carson St. was held Friday, following completion of extensive interior and exterior improvements over the past several months. Robert Stape, vice president retail, calls the store one of Goodwill's most active among its 30 stores in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
