Lest a certain someone in their lives be questioning the necessity of bringing home one more handbag, ladies were off the hook for any accusations of retail redundancy, thanks to designer Susan van der Linde's trunk show at Larrimor's on Thursday that gave new meaning to the Power of the Purse.

Benefiting the United Way, portions of the proceeds were earmarked to help women in our area who are one step away from a crisis, an effort spearheaded by Debbie Demchak, Laura Ellsworth, Lisa Slesinger, Pat Siger and Elizabeth Terrell.

“We're shopping, we're happy,” said Siger.

Anne Lewis, Catherine Loevner, Eva Blum, and Carolyn Duronio were also amongst those perusing the wares bearing the New York designer's label, which included handbags as well as shoes, hats and even a fascinator or two.

“This one's going home with me,” Ellsworth declared.
