Hill of Hope Gala lauds Hill District progress

Hope for the best

“The Hill District is definitely changing in the right direction, and I'm proud the Y is part of that,” said Aaron Gibson, executive director of the Thelma Lovette & Centre Avenue YMCA.

More than 200 guests arrived at the Marriott City Center on Sept. 27 for the Y's Hill of Hope Gala, where Brenda Tate and Kimberly Slater-Wood were serving as co-chairwomen.

“We're living up to the goal of being a vital part of the community,” said C. Denise Johnson.

Among those attending the event, which raised funds for community members who can't afford the Y programs, were honorary chairs the Hon. Joseph Williams III and his wife, Darryl, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh prez Rig Riggins, Centre Avenue Y board chair Charlene Newkirk, and the Rev. Dr. Vincent Campbell.
