'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Can anything set the tone of the evening better than a champagne bar?

For 600 guests of Jefferson Hospital's Glitz & Glam Gala, the answer was a unanimous no.

Co-chaired by Barb and Bill Magnotti and Rich and Micki Talarico, the record-breaking crowd was indicative of just how much the event has grown.

“Six years ago, we had 350 guests, and we were thrilled,” PR maven Theresa Kaufman said.

Benefitting the Jefferson Women's Health Initiative, the evening also included a performance by The Unexpected Boys, a renowned tribute act to the Four Seasons.

Spotted among the crowd were board chair Gregory Harbaugh (with Gail), Jefferson Regional Medical Center prez John Dempster, Drs. Tony and Katie Farah, Dr. David Blandino, Patricia Liebman, and Dr. Timothy Honkala.
