Fashion FYI: Pittsburgh artists create fashion specs for charity
Penn Avenue Eyewear and Most Wanted Fine Art are teaming up to support the eye health of local artists while giving back to charities that support them.
An exhibit will highlight the works of 25 artists that includes 15 pairs of hand-customized artistic wooden eyewear frames. They will be available through a silent auction at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at 201 W. Waterfront Drive, Homestead (in the former Pittsburgh Burger Co.).
Penn Avenue Eyewear is an independent Pittsburgh-based retailer committed to designing stylish prescription glasses and nonprescription sunglasses. Most Wanted Fine Art is a community-service organization disguised as an art gallery.
The event will benefit the Bloomfield-Garfield Corp. and Healthy Artists.
A telling story
The 11th annual Pittsburgh Fashion Story will be Sept. 5 at Power Center Ballroom on the Duquesne University campus, Uptown.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. The cocktail party and fashion show at 8:30 p.m. will benefit Partners for Quality, a Pittsburgh-area nonprofit that provides services to more than 2,500 people annually through its various subsidiaries, Allegheny Children's Initiative, Citizen Care and Exceptional Adventures to help children who are struggling with behavioral-health challenges.
Models will wear apparel provided by Carabella, Dina Ellen, Charles Spiegel for Men, Kristi Boutique, Moda and Roberta Weissburg Leathers. Tickets are $100.

Looking for models
The Junior League of Pittsburgh invites girls to become models for the American Girl Fashion Show on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Fox Chapel. Model searches will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Galleria in Mt. Lebanon and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at Settlers Ridge in Robinson, both at Learning Express locations.
Models must fit either a size 6X for Little Girl clothing or size 10 for Historical Contemporary Fashions. More than 130 local models will present historical and contemporary fashions.
Proceeds from the event will support the Junior League of Pittsburgh's initiatives to educate and empower children.

Arts Day of Giving, also known as ArtDOG, is an 18-hour opportunity for arts lovers to donate online to their favorite nonprofit and have their contributions partially matched.
Sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and the Pittsburgh Foundation, the day of giving will be from 6 a.m. to midnight Oct. 2. To kick off the event, the arts council will host Unleashed: Artist Party and Dog Fashion Show from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 3 at the New Hazlett Theater, North Side. Dogs will compete for costume prizes. The costume party is free. Happy hour is $10.
