Peering out from behind her friend, Bet, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 23-year-old elephant Seeni, rescued from Botswana in 2011, delivered her second calf Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium's International Conservation Center in Somerset County.

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium has delivered a baby elephant.

Seeni, one of three elephants rescued from Botswana in 2011 by the Pittsburgh Zoo, delivered a calf early Wednesday morning at the International Conservation Center's Maternal Care Barn in Somerset County.

The calf will be introduced to the public at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Seeni wasn't expected to calve until the end of June, so to walk in in the morning and see this tiny little elephant attempting to stand on wobbly legs was a total surprise,” said Willie Theison, Elephant Manager at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium and International Conservation Center

The calf weighed 184 pounds — 52 pounds below the median birth weight of a calf born full-term.

The calf will not be on exhibit or available for viewing for several more months.
