Allegheny jail inmate's death investigated
Allegheny County Police are investigating the death on Friday of an inmate in the county jail who was found hanging in his cell on Tuesday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner said.
The victim, Ross Frye, 62, of Homestead, was found hanging in his cell at the Second Avenue jail in Pittsburgh at 9:57 a.m. Tuesday and was pronounced dead at 3:40 p.m. Friday, the medical examiner said. The medical examiner did not state where Frye was pronounced dead.
Additional details from the county police were not available Saturday morning.
Port Authority police had arrested Frye on Sept. 15 on charges of open lewdness and indecent exposure. Frye was placed in the county jail, then was to be released on his own recognizance Sept. 19 by an Allegheny County Common Pleas judge.
Frye had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Jeffrey Manning on Sept. 28.
