Liberty Bridge to close in both directions overnight Friday
Lane closures on the Liberty Bridge will continue through the weekend.
The bridge will be closed in both directions from 8 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday, PennDOT said in a news release.
The bridge closure is in addition to the previously announced closure of the Liberty Tunnel overnight Thursday and Friday. The tunnel will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. One inbound lane of the tunnel will be closed from 5 a.m. until noon Saturday.
Some single-lane restrictions are also planned on the bridge.
One outbound lane of the bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Friday, while one inbound lane will be closed from 8 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.
Additionally, Second Avenue will be closed between Ross Street and B Street from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. Ross Street will be closed between First and Third streets during the same time. Crews will conduct painting lines on the Boulevard of the Allies.
Signs will be posted to guide motorists around the closures.
The Liberty Bridge closures are part of an $80 million bridge rehabilitation project that is scheduled to be finished in July, according to PennDOT. The Liberty Tunnel closures are part of a $30 million tunnel rehabilitation project slated to be finished in February 2019.
Since the bridge will not close for the entire weekend, it doesn't count as one of the project's numbered weekend closures, a PennDOT spokeswoman said. There is one more full weekend closure planned.
