Export prepares for Light Up Night, storefront decorating contest
Light Up Night in Export will not just have residents looking forward to the holiday season this year.
It will also serve as a nod to the borough's past with the unveiling of two historical information plaques throughout town.
Borough councilwoman and Export Historical Society member Melanie Litz said the Dec. 1 event will include the unveiling of composite plaques at the borough building as well as Master Auto Supply, which at one time was the company store for the Westmoreland Coal Company.
Litz said the plan is to identify plenty of historically significant sites in the borough , and provide residents with information about the town's past.
The next two signs will mark the Italian American Club, which was the coal company's former boiler house, and Duff Manor, which was once the Duff School.
Light Up Night will be held downtown at 7 p.m.
This holiday season will also include a storefront decorating contest, sponsored by the J.M. Hall Jr. Community Trust.
Entries are due by Light Up Night on Dec. 1.
