Perryopolis police shoot, kill man who refused to drop gun
Perryopolis Borough police officers shot and killed a man Thursday after the man allegedly refused to drop a gun.
Police responded to the Constitution Street home of Garrett Judson Hoose, 47, of Perryopolis at about 6:12 p.m. Thursday.
Hoose had sent text messages to his family saying he was planning to harm himself, according to state police in Belle Vernon.
Hoose was holding a gun and refused to drop it after repeated commands from officers, according to police.
“In fear of death or serious bodily injury” a Perryopolis police officer “exercised the use of deadly force to stop Hoose's actions,” the state police report said.
This was the second time Perryopolis police had been called to Hoose's home. On Wednesday, Hoose sent text messages threatening to harm himself to his family. Police responded by putting Frazier School District on lock down.
State Police Belle Vernon and the Fayette County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
