Route 22 bridge work triggers traffic change near Blairsville
A new traffic pattern will go into effect beginning Monday on Route 22 at the border of Westmoreland and Indiana counties. Motorists will use one lane in each direction, eastbound and westbound, between Jonnet Road in Derry Township and Dixon Street in Blairsville, as Mosites Construction works to rehabilitate the bridge that carries the highway over the Conemaugh River, the Norfolk Southern Railroad and Route 217.
Crews will repair the bridge's deck and substructure and will paint the span and make drainage improvements.
A single-lane restriction in each direction will remain in effect through completion of the $4.65 million project, which is expected before the end of October.
The on-ramp from Route 217 to Route 22 westbound will remain closed. A posted detour directs traffic along Old William Penn Highway to the routes 119/22 interchange.
PennDOT officials cautioned that congestion and delays are possible during peak morning and evening periods.
