Greensburg Community Days workers and city employees will be thinking about one of their own when fireworks blast across the sky on Saturday at Lynch Field.

Zambelli Fireworks will begin the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. with a tribute to the late Linda S. Koval, who worked in the city's accounts receivable department and was a member of the Community Days organizing committee.

Koval, 49, died Oct. 12 in a battle with breast cancer.

“The first 20 seconds of the firework show will be in tribute to Linda,” said Frank Lehman, recreation department director and chairman of the Community Days committee. “There's going to be a series of red and blue hearts that are going to be shot in the air.”

Koval played an important role in the community celebration and the city, said Lehman and Sue Trout, city administrator and a committee member.

“It was the committee's idea,” Trout said.

“Everybody wanted to pay tribute to her,” she added. “We really miss her.”

Organizers will explain the tribute before the fireworks go off during the 19th annual Community Days, Trout said.

Four years ago, the committee honored the late City Councilman Wayne Johnson with a fireworks tribute.

A spokesman for New Castle-based Zambelli did not return phone calls.

“It's just everybody's love we felt for Linda and all she did for the committee and the city in general,” Lehman said of the tribute.

Koval's mother, Sally Doppelheuer of Scottdale, said she, Koval's sister Lisa and Koval's stepfather, Chester Doppelheuer, will be at Lynch Field to watch the fireworks.

Sally Doppelheuer said she and her family are touched by the committee's decision.

“Everybody tells me how much they miss her,” she said.
