Moon will pay $97,500 to settle a lawsuit filed by a former township manager.

Township supervisors voted unanimously Monday to approve a settlement agreement with Gregory Smith, who was fired in 2008 during a 120-day transition period after he submitted his resignation.

Smith contended in a lawsuit that supervisors didn't honor terms of his contract, which called for 30 days' notice, stating the reason for his firing, and a year's severance. Smith made about $114,000 a year.

The settlement calls for Moon to make a $65,000 check payable to Smith, and a $32,500 check payable to Smith and his attorneys at Downtown-based Rothman Gordon P.C., according to the document.

The settlement states the agreement “is a compromise of a doubtful and disputed claim” and that nothing in the agreement should be construed as an admission of liability by supervisors.
