New cardiologist joins AVH staff

Dr. Rajiv S. Swamy, an interventional cardiologist, recently joined the medical staff at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison.
Swamy practices with Tri-County Cardiology with offices in Natrona Heights and Lower Burrell, and also is on staff at West Penn and Allegheny General hospitals.
A graduate of Duke University in Durham, N.C., with a bachelor's degree in economics and chemistry, he received his medical degree from the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, and went on to complete his medicine internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Swamy finished his interventional fellowship at New York University Medical Center where he had special training in coronary, peripheral and structural heart disease.
While at the University of Chicago Medical Center, he was the chief medical resident and instructor of medicine.
Swamy is board-certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology and is board eligible in cardiovascular disease and echocardiography

Speaker to cover estate planning
The Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH) Trust will host an estate-planning seminar at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Pittsburgh Field Club, 121 Fox Chapel Road, O'Hara.
The featured speaker is Scott Keffer, an internationally recognized financial educator and author. His expertise is in the areas of income tax reduction and estate tax elimination.
He has made his estate-planning presentation to more than 15,000 people across the United States and Canada.

AccessAbilities looks for more support staff

Forbes accredited for cardiac care
The Heart and Vascular Center at Forbes Regional Hospital recently received Accreditation for Cardiovascular Excellence (ACE) cardiac catheterization accreditation and heart failure accreditation status from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
ACE accreditation is a professional review of an organization's structure, internal processes, patient safety practices, and clinical outcomes to determine if it meets the standards established by experts in cardiac and endovascular care.
ACE is sponsored by The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology, jointly representing over 40,000 practitioners.
In addition to ACE cardiac catheterization accreditation, the Heart and Vascular Center at Forbes Regional received full Heart Failure Accreditation status from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, and is a certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center.
The open-heart surgery program has been recognized as one of the best in the nation for three consecutive years by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the only program in Western Pennsylvania to do so.
