Gateway administrators will maintain their supplemental contracts for extracurricular activities through the end of June, after a unanimous vote by the Gateway School Board on Nov. 14.

A policy prohibiting administrators from holding extracurricular advisory positions was scheduled to take effect at the end of the calendar year, at which point the head advisers of the robotics team and yearbook committee would have been forced to step down.

The policy to prohibit administrators from holding supplemental contracts was established in June to avoid an athletic director from favoring one sport as a head coach.

The school board also voted in June to reduce athletic director Terry Smith's position to part-time status. While the advisers are safe for the rest of the district budget year, some parents argued that current administrators should be exempt from the new policy.
