'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

Graduating from Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill., are:Navy Seaman Charles D. Speelman,son of Eileen M. and David R. Speelman of Pittsburgh and a 2012 graduate of Langley High School, Pittsburgh; Navy Seaman Recruit Corrine A. Sharp, daughter of Lesley A. Cowles of Allison Park and a 2012 graduate of Hampton High School; and Navy Seaman Peter A. Cortese, son of Kimberly A. Cortese and Ralph J. Cortese and a 2007 graduate of Northgate High School.

Marine Corps Pvt. Joseph M. Stipetich graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. The son of Kelly and Joseph M. Stipetich, he is a 2012 graduate of Shaler Area High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Allison R. Grasha graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. The daughter of Sandy Grasha of Penn Hills, she is a 2010 graduate of Grandview Heights High School, Columbus, Ohio.

Arriving in Norfolk, Va., following deployment supporting operations in the Mediterranean and Arabian seas, were: Navy Airman Apprentice Brian M. Easley, son of Army Sgt. Patrick M. Easley of Pittsburgh and a 2011 graduate of Woodland Hills High School; Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jessica G. Finnigan, daughter of Michele Finnigan of Greenock and Kenneth Finnigan of Boston, Pa., and a 2004 graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School; Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Adam J. Feher, son of Scott Feher of Pittsburgh; and Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Benjamin A. Bartley, son of Diane S. Mitchell of Danville, Va. and Clarence D. Bartley, of West Mifflin, and a 2001 graduate of Tunstall High School, Dry Fork, Va.
