School: Sixth-grader at Sister Thea Bowman Catholic Academy in Wilkinsburg

Activities/interests: Ruqqiyah plays basketball on the junior varsity team. Outside school, she volunteers to clean up Wilkinsburg, plays video games and spends time at the Boys and Girls Club of Wilkinsburg. She likes to draw manga, or Japanese-style comics, and realistic art.

Noteworthy: Ruqqiyah will receive a $1,000 scholarship as Pennsylvania's winner of a coloring contest sponsored by Max & Erma's. Her drawing will be displayed in the chain's Pennsylvania restaurants through May 5.

Quote: “I feel really honored. Out of all those people, they chose me. It's pretty cool how my art is going to be shown everywhere, and I am going to be known.”
