State cops search Arnold for suspect with alleged stolen items

Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, 3:48 p.m.

State police searched Arnold by foot, by car and by helicopter on Friday afternoon for a man wanted in connection with items stolen during burglaries in Armstrong and Butler counties.

State police Lt. Thomas Dubovi said Christopher James “Cheese” McClinton, 18, of Arnold, is wanted on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Dubovi said police believe McClinton is involved in buying items stolen in the burglaries.

Dubovi said state police troopers and West-moreland County Sheriff's deputies were preparing to serve an arrest warrant on McClinton on Friday afternoon when he saw them and ran away.

Law enforcement searched the city for several hours — including calling in the assistance of state police helicopter — but had not found McClinton by dusk, Dubovi said.

At one point, they surrounded a house on McCandless Street where they thought McClinton might have entered, but he wasn't there.

Dubovi said police obtained a search warrant for a house in Arnold connected with McClinton; Dubovi couldn't immediately provide an address.

Dubovi said drugs and an item connected to the burglaries were found inside the house.

McClinton is described as a black man with a goatee.

Dubovi said guns were stolen in the burglaries, so police are operating under the assumption McClinton could be armed.

Anyone with information should call state police at 724-284-8100 or 911.
