Waterline break closes Apollo-Ridge schools

Thursday, July 24, 2014, 1:21 a.m.

The Apollo-Ridge high school and middle school will be closed to the public through the weekend and reopen on Monday because a waterline broke in the school on Tuesday, Business Manager Jennie Ivory said.

The 4-inch line broke in the building's boiler room but caused no damage, Ivory said. Contractors fixed it Wednesday morning, but the water could not be turned on immediately because sealant used in the repair needs to cure.

Boiler work planned for Friday, too, will require the water to be shut off, Ivory said. The school's offices are routinely closed on Fridays during the summer.

The district's elementary school was not affected. Employees were given the option of using facilities there or using vacation days, Ivory said.
