A police officer will monitor three Chartiers Valley School District buildings in Collier Township starting next month, following a vote Wednesday night.

Collier Township Board of Commissioners approved assigning a school resource officer to school district buildings.

The school resource officer is scheduled to begin on Feb. 4 at the middle school-high school campus, or the primary school, both on Thoms Run Road.

A second school resource officer from Collier's police force probably will be assigned at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year, Collier manager Sal Sirabella said.

Chartiers Valley has four schools in Collier and Scott townships. The district remains in negotiations with Scott officials to place one school resource officer at the intermediate school on Swallow Hill Road. The board of commissioners was scheduled to vote on the matter at its Jan. 22 meeting, Scott Manager Denise Fitzgerald said.
