Cranberry's Noon Rotary Club has been providing service to the township in varied ways for the last four decades.

Founded on June 29, 1971, the Noon Rotary now consists of 26 members who are dedicated to helping the community, said publicity chairman and former president Richard Dunmire.

The Noon Rotary makes considerable efforts to support the Seneca Valley School District.

Each year, the club gives away four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors at the school.

They also support the attendance of students to different conferences. The organization pays for two students to attend the World Affairs Council, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference, and the Rotary Outstanding Vocational Awards conference.

The clubs motto, “Service above Self,” is shown through things like their commitment to send students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards each year, said Linda Andreassi, Rotary member and the Seneca Valley School District's communications director.

The awards conference develops leadership skills for youth around the globe and aims to instill some of the values of Rotary in the participants.

The Rotary has pledged to donate $5,000 each year for three years to the Seneca Valley Foundation, which is a non-profit, 501c3 organization that is “dedicated to encouraging excellence and innovation in the Seneca Valley Schools,” according to the organization's website.

The Cranberry Noon Rotary also spends their money to support other community institutions like the library and the Salvation Army.

Along with collecting dues, the club organizes several events each year to raise money for these donations, including a bowling event that raised about $3,000, said president Jerry Savoroski.

The organization holds a golf outing each year, which acts as their major fund-raiser. The outing this year was held at Olde Stonewall Golf Course in Ellwood City and raised about $19,000.

“We love getting (the money), and we love giving it away,” said Dunmire. “That's why we're in Rotary.”

The Noon Rotary meets for lunch at noon every Tuesday at the YMCA on Route 19.
