Traffic tie-ups expected at Highland Park Bridge

Lower Valley motorists who use the Highland Park Bridge can expect traffic tangles through October while the span is inspected for deficiencies.
Work began this week and is expected to last throughout the month.
There will be single-lane closures and traffic shifts as needed, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
The work will affect the ramps as well.
Work is expected to be done from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
The bridge spans the Allegheny River from Route 28 to Route 8. It carries a heavy amount of traffic between Aspinwall and Highland Park.
Markosky Engineering Group and Sofis Rigging Co. will perform the inspection on the 73-year-old bridge.
Earlier this year, the bridge was part of a $1.3 million PennDOT project to repair barriers along the southbound ramp from Route 8. Lone Pine Construction did the work.
Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns and allow extra time for using the bridge, Struzzi said.
