Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, 9:00 p.m.

Blawnox is ready to become the latest town to welcome Santa Claus.

The borough will hold “Night of the Lights” tonight, Thursday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m.

The program will begin at the monument and include the O'Hara Elementary School chorus singing Christmas carols.

The night also will include “Mike the Balloon Guy,” who will make a balloon sculpture.

Children will have the opportunity to ride a horse-drawn sleigh.

Borough manager Sherry Kordas, one of the event's organizers, said the annual program serves as a way for families to celebrate the start of the holidays.

“We think it's a wonderful event where adults and children can come as a family and have a free night of fun to start off the Christmas season,” Kordas said.

Santa Claus will make his appearance at 7 p.m. at the monument. Children can give their requests to Santa and receive a treat. Free photographs with Santa also will be available.

Hoboken Presbyterian Church will serve refreshments and prizes will be raffled for adults after the festivities.

Businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate for the event.

For more information, call the borough office at 412-828-4141.
