Robbery suspect caught

A Latrobe man who eluded police for two months has been jailed for allegedly robbing a man outside the Rite Aid store in the city, police said.

Cody Hulse, 20, of Creekside Lane was arrested on Friday when police found him sitting at a picnic table in the city's 3rd Ward playground.

Hulse was wanted on an outstanding warrant for robbery, theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property in the Aug. 3 daylight robbery of Jack O. Edmundson Jr., 42, of Saltsburg, outside the Rite Aid store on Depot Street.

Edmundson told police that the robber escaped with $400 and a GPS unit stolen from Edmundson's sport utility vehicle parked near the store. Edmundson said he wrestled the man to the ground, but the robber broke loose and ran toward the Norfolk Southern Corp. railroad tracks.

Police said they received a report on Friday that an intoxicated man, who turned out to be Hulse, was sitting at the playground picnic table. Police said he also was charged with possession of a controlled substance and alcohol, which he allegedly had at the time of his arrest.

Hulse was arraigned before Hempfield District Judge Mark Mansour and placed in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of $15,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 15 before Unity District Judge Michael Mahady.
