Celtic band opens entertainment schedule at Fort Ligonier Days

The 2012 Fort Ligonier Days entertainment schedule offers a wide variety of musical performances.
Following the opening ceremony at noon Friday, Full Kilt will take the Diamond's bandstand stage 1 - 3 p.m. with traditional Irish/Scottish tunes blended with a progressive rock tilt. The band has been performing in central Pennsylvania since 2006. The four-man band covers numerous Celtic rock bands and plays original arrangements of traditional Celtic songs.
The Crawdaddies take the bandstand stage 4 -6 p.m. Friday. The band was formed in 1996 and infuses Cajun, Blues, Rock and Reggae into a sound of its own.
The Quantico Marine Corps Band will perform at the Ligonier Valley High School auditorium 7 p.m. Friday. This U.S. Marine Corps. Band was established in 1918 and is one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps. The band is comprised of combat-trained active duty Marines. The group will perform classic to contemporary music. The band will also lead Saturday's Fort Ligonier Days parade down Main Street at 11 a.m.
Musical entertainment returns Saturday when Cool Breeze Jazz performs 2 - 3:30 p.m. on the bandstand. The band is Western Pennsylvania's all-female jazz ensemble. Founded in 2010, the group performs early classic to modern-day jazz. The band will feature two male musicians, a virtuosic tuba player and a jazz valve trombonist, at the Fort Ligonier Days performance.
Girlz in Black Hats will perform 4:30 - 6 p.m. Saturday. The female-dominated country band got its start at a high school talent show in 2005. They play a mix of contemporary and classic country sprinkled with rock'n'roll.
The focus will move to the East Main Street stage where Jimmie Ross and The Jaggerz perform 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The band was signed to a recording contract with Gamble Records of Philadelphia in 1968 and are best known for the song “The Rapper,” “Baby I Love You” and “Gotta Find My Way Back Home.” The Jaggerz have recorded 11 singles and six albums. Original band members Jimmie Ross and Benny Faiella carry on the band's signature harmony sound. The band celebrates its 46th anniversary this year.
During the band's intermission, at 7:30 p.m. re-enactors encamped at Fort Ligonier will present an Evening Trooping of the Colors. Troops will march up to and around the Diamond.
There will be a fireworks display at 8:45 p.m. Saturday following the Jaggerz performance.
Country music will fill the air Sunday when The Stickers perform 12:30 - 2 p.m. at the bandstand. The band has opened for Blake Shelton and Zac Brown Band, They feature the Wodarek brothers and childhood friend, Miguel, the dancing Spanish cowboy.
Neon Swing X-perience will perform 3 - 5 p.m. Sunday. Named one of Pittsburgh's best rock bands, the group performs a blend of hopped-up rockin' swing music and is known as one of the region's best jazz ensembles. They feature swing, rockabilly, Dixieland jazz, horn rock and blues.
The Valley Players will present “Blues in the Valley” 1 - 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ligonier Theatre located at 208 W. Main St. The free concert features The Mystic Knights with guest Kenny Blake.
After the closing ceremony at 5 p.m. Sunday. the final musical presentation will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. It features Shirley Benner performing a carillon concert from Calvary United Methodist Church.
