Pleasant Hills sets truck weight limits

Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 3:16 a.m.

On June 20, truckers using local streets in Pleasant Hills will face new weight limits.

Council approved an ordinance on Monday setting a 10-ton limit on W. Bruceton Road and 5-ton limits on E. Bruceton as well as Arbor and Dutch lanes and Mowry Drive.

Solicitor Fred C. Jug Jr. said there will be exemptions for local deliveries and as consistent with state law.

Jug said trucks will be allowed a 3,000-pound leeway, beyond which there will be fines of $75 as well as $75 for each additional 500 pounds.

Borough residents soon will know this year's real estate tax rate. Councilman Joseph Esper said a special meeting will be needed before a June 15 deadline set by Allegheny County Common Pleas Senior Judge R. Stanton Wettick Jr.

“Hopefully we'll have the latest certified numbers from the county later this week,” Esper said.

Council approved a $467,185.50 bid from A. Folino Construction Inc. of Oakmont to pave parts of Carroll, Capitol, Delano and Sequoia drives, replace a storm sewer along W. Bruceton and pave Pleasant Kingdom playground tennis courts.

Folino was low bidder, submitting proposals ranging from $444,766.37 to $586,670.50 for three options offered by the borough. Folino had the paving contract two years ago.

Council approved an ordinance allowing businesses to use A-frame sandwich boards no larger than 40 square feet in commercial zones where they aren't a hazard to traffic.

Councilman Regis Brown said the borough planning commission may consider the latest bid by A.M. Rodriguez Associates to build a four-story, 85-unit senior living facility on 17 acres along Plaza Drive when it meets tonight.

Rodriguez proposed another text amendment to the zoning code.

Councilman Gregory Smith said Pleasant Hills Library soon will begin a new five-year plan, as it adjusts to patrons using fewer books and more electronic items.
