S. Versailles board to advertise 2014 budget

Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, 2:06 a.m.

South Versailles Township's board of commissioners voted on Thursday to advertise a $104,128 budget for 2014.

That is up from this year's $99,809 spending plan and about 10 percent higher than the $94,494 budget in 2012, but township officials said there would be no change in the 4.2-mill tax rate.

A final vote could come at the next board meeting on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m.

The meeting normally would be Dec. 12 but it was moved because of the annual Twin Rivers Council of Governments holiday dinner meeting at Banquets Unlimited in Wilmerding.

The township is looking for a code enforcement officer to replace the retired Wayne Washowich in White Oak.

The commissioners said they will meet with Building Inspection Underwriters, which has offices in Avalon and Jeannette, and Code Enforcement Associates of Jefferson Hills.

Commissioner Ed Kulasa said the township does not need to deal with major developments, as do neighboring municipalities. Commissioner David Stockett said 99 percent of the township is residential.

The board agreed to a two-year extension of its contract with Ferree Kennels of McKeesport for animal control services. The commissioners said the company offered the extension at no change in fees.

The township agreed to continued snow removal service from White Oak.

In attendance was Allegheny County Councilman Bob Macey, D-West Mifflin, who pledged “to fight feverishly and extensively” for the Mon Valley in the new term he won in last week's general election.

Macey said he has a new position as a constituent service representative for state Sen. James Brewster, D-McKeesport. Macey recently retired from a job with Century Heritage Federal Credit Union.
