'American Coyotes' Series

Traveling by Jeep, boat and foot, Tribune-Review investigative reporter Carl Prine and photojournalist Justin Merriman covered nearly 2,000 miles over two months along the border with Mexico to report on coyotes — the human traffickers who bring illegal immigrants into the United States. Most are Americans working for money and/or drugs. This series reports how their operations have a major impact on life for residents and the environment along the border — and beyond.

A McKeesport-based professional wrestling promotion is making sure its fans remember one of its founding members.

Pro Wrestling eXpress will present the seventh annual Sean “Shocker” Evans Memorial Tournament on Saturday in the Wrestleplex at 2125 Beacon St. Bell time is 7:30 p.m.

Evans, who was raised in McKeesport, cofounded NWA East, PWX's former name, with promoter Jim Miller. Evans was Miller's neighbor and trained in the old Eastland Mall, the wrestling promotion's original home, in 1994. Evans went on to appear in events for World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Evans was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2005, and was told he had only six months to live. He fought the disease for two years before passing away in October 2007. He was 36.

The memorial tournament is PWX's largest production next to its annual anniversary show. Both events usually bring back icons such as Quinn Magnum and official Shawn Patrick.

The winner of a Fury 6 match with Shirley Doe, Beastman and Bill Collier vs. Ethan Wright, Matt Conard and Alex Matthews will be the final entrant in the tournament.

Opening-round matches include Jack Pollock taking on Ryan Reign, Seth Allen versus Stryder, Dylan Bostic battling J.R. Mega, and Patrick Hayes against the Fury 6 winner.

In nontournament action, the PWX Heavyweight title is up for grabs in a last-man-standing match between Gory, Tanner Reynolds and G-Raver. The PWX Three Rivers and Television titles are on the line in what could be the most dynamic fight of the night with Tony Johnson, Cassidy Stone, Chris LeRusso and Ganon Jones Jr.

Advance tickets at prowrestlingexpress.com are $12 for ringside, $10 for general admission and $6 for fans younger than 12. Tickets at the door are $15 for ringside, $12 for general admission, and $6 for youths.

Fight card is subject to change. More information is available online at prowrestlingexpress.com.
