Pa. revenue secretary Meuser to visit Mon Valley on April 6

State Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser will discuss Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed 2013-14 state budget plan during a luncheon meeting April 9.

The appearance, which is being hosted by the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, will be held 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Anthony M. Lombardi Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital.

“We appreciate the opportunity to host Secretary Meuser,” said Deb Keefer, chamber director.

“The meeting is open to the public, so we hope to see our business community represented there, as well as our school districts and municipalities.”

Meuser was nominated by Corbett on Jan. 18, 2011, and he subsequently was unanimously confirmed to the post by the state Senate on May 3, then sworn into office on May 20.

Prior to being nominated as revenue secretary, Meuser was with Pride Mobility Products for more than 20 years and is the former president of Pride USA.

Located in Luzerne County, Pride Mobility Products Corp. is the world's leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of power wheelchairs and scooters.

Meuser serves on the board of the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, and the board of trustees of the Wilkes-Barre YMCA and Misericordia University.

Meuser and his wife, Shelley, reside in Shavertown with their three children.

“I think the governor is reaching out to all parts of the state with his cabinet,” Keffer said. “This is a pertinent subject to all of us, at every level whether a citizen or nonprofit.

“Everybody should take the opportunity when someone who is that close to the budget to come out and listen to his presentation.”

Reservations are required by April 5. The cost is $15 per person for members and $18 per person for nonmembers.

This is not the first time that the chamber hosted a key administration official.

In 2007, the chamber hosted then Gov. Ed Rendell, who spoke at the Mon Valley YMCA about healthcare.

“They look to the regional chamber as a representative of the business community in the Mon Valley,” Keefer said. “A part of our mission as a regional chamber is to cover a broader area and tie all of the communities together. One of our goals was to be able to present quality programs to the business community. We are recognized as an organization that can do that.”

In addition, on Feb. 14, 2012, Ben Taylor, executive director of the western district of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, spoke at a chamber luncheon at the Willow Room in Rostraver Township about the state of American business.
