Two arrested on drug charges in Monessen
Working in conjunction with the state Attorney General's office, Monessen police arrested two men – one from Daisytown – for allegedly purchasing 50 stamp bags of potent heroin Wednesday in the area of Tenth Street and Knox Avenue.
Jesse McKita, 26, of 72 Woodland Road, Daisytown, was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy.
Brenen Greer, 25, of Canonsburg was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and two conspiracy charges.
Police said the two were observed conducting “suspicious activity” inside their vehicle in an area of the city known as “The Wall,” according to police Chief John Mandarino.
Police pulled over the vehicle at the Eastgate Exxon on Schoonmaker Avenue, where they allegedly found a syringe on McKita, who had been driving. Police said Greer exited the car and removed his sock containing 50 bags – or one “brick” – of heroin wrapped together with rubber bands.
Greer, who told police he regularly injects the drug, said he purchased the brick from a black male known only to him as “Bill,” police said, for $275 near the side entrance of the Elks Club on Tenth Street.
Police said Greer stated he normally keeps 20 bags and sells the other 30 to support his habit.
McKita told police he drove Greer into Monessen to buy the heroin and was expecting Greer to pay him.
Police said the 50 bags were stamped with the word “OVERDOSE” and the image of a syringe in red ink. Police Lt. Carl Fronzaglio said bags marked with this particular stamp has been known to cause heroin users to overdose.
McKita and Greer were arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Dalfonso in Monessen and sent to Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $25,000 and $50,000, respectively. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 11 a.m. July 5 before Dalfonso.
