'Scott and Rosanna' acoustic duo set to perform in Charleroi
A new acoustic duo will bring their smooth jazz and soul sounds to Charleroi this weekend.
Scott Spindler and Rosanna Paterra will be performing at the River House Cafe at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The couple will be celebrating the release of their first original album, “3 Cheers.”
Spindler and Paterra forged a musical partnership last year while playing together in the jazz ensemble at California University of Pennsylvania.
They discovered that their musical talents “perfectly complemented” each other.
They perform a wide variety of musical styles including pop, jazz, soul, and original music.
They couple began building a repertoire consisting of covers and recently just finished recording “3 Cheers.”
Paterra, who is originally from the South Hills, knew that she wanted to pursue music from a very young age. She spent most of her childhood performing in Pittsburgh with the Civic Light Opera. One of her proudest performance moments was singing with her brother, Rocky, at Heinz Hall under Marvin Hamlisch.
During her college experiences, she has shifted her focus from musical theater to a deep passion for jazz and soul music. She began singing with the Cal U jazz ensemble, which has “immensely inspired her growth and direction as a vocalist,” she said.
She is also a student leader in several musical groups at Cal U including the university choir, and as the executive vice president, and director of the all-female acapella group, “Acapella Stella.”
Spindler began his musical journey in 7th grade when he decided to pick up the guitar. The “Iron Man” riff echoed through the house for months on end, he said. In high school, his interests in music somewhat fizzled, but he picked it back up again in college when he created a band with friends.
At West Virginia University he studied finance, but all of his free time was geared towards music. Realizing music was his true passion, he said he transferred to Cal U and received a commercial music technology degree.
At Cal, he played with the Jazz ensemble which expanded his musical interest and abilities. He is currently teaching guitar lessons to over 30 students a week.
