Administration, maintenance staffs for Robinson municipal authority will swap buildings

Administration and maintenance staffs for the Robinson municipal authority will swap buildings, in conjunction with a $1.6 million renovation of the two facilities.

The work will be done in anticipation of building a fourth sewage treatment plant in 10 years to accommodate residential and commercial development, an official said.

Administrative offices will move to 4200 Campbells Run Road and the maintenance garage will move to 4192 Campbells Run Road, said Anthony T. Lenze, executive director of the municipal authority.

Changes will include increasing space for administrative offices and upgrade electrical and plumbing systems, roofs and parking lots.

He said the work and swap are necessary “to meet the growing needs of the developments of the Campbells Run sewer shed” by making sure the authority has adequate office and public maintenance facility space. The authority is funded by sewage and water fees paid by consumers.

Led by Brentwood-based general contractor Sterling Contracting LLC, the renovation work will begin within a month and take about nine months, Lenze said.

The township expected to need another sewage treatment plant in 10 years to accommodate residential and commercial development that will tap the Campbells Run sewer shed, he said.

The municipal authority expects to build the treatment plant on 1.5 acres adjacent to the building at 4192 Campbells Run Road. Part of that building will become part of the plant's control facility, Lenze said.

The Campbells Run plant is one of three sewage plants the municipal authority operates. It treats an average of 650,000 gallons of sewage flow daily, Lenze said. Its capacity is 1 million gallons per day, but the agency expects to need to double that to 2 million with a new treatment plant, he said.Among development pushing the need are the Settlers Ridge retail development, which opened in 2009, adding an average of 50,000 gallons of flow daily, and plans by Industrial Scientific of North Fayette to move to the township by the end of 2015. The company, which specializes in gas-detection products and services, expects employment to grow from 350 to 800 people in a few years.

Township Planning Director Rick Urbano expects much of the 200 acres of undeveloped land in the Campbells Run sewer shed to be developed over the next decade.
